AFL Intensive English Cup celebrates a sixth year at Blacktown

20 July 2017

The AFL Intensive English Cup (IEC) will return to Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney for the 6th consecutive year on Tuesday 25 July 2017.

Students from 14 Intensive English Centres across Sydney and Wollongong will compete in the annual gala.

Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Stephen Bali, is proud that Blacktown City can host such significant events. "It is a fantastic initiative by AFL to encourage these students to improve their English but also get involved with sport," Said Mayor Bali

"Sport is a great development tool for students and can help break down community barriers. Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney is the ideal location for this event.

We are proud to be a sporting city and the multicultural capital of NSW, with over 143 different nationalities calling Blacktown home."

The IEC Program is one of the AFL’s long-standing engagement programs and has been specifically designed to connect with new migrants and refugees. The AFL is committed to sharing the game of football and offering free programs and gala day experiences for students of all backgrounds.

The IEC coincides with the AFL Multicultural Round. The IEC is an opportunity for all students who participate in the AFL’s free six week program to develop game experience and compete against the other local schools.
