AFL Women’s under 18’s Championship at Blacktown International Sportspark

17 May 2017

The next generation of upcoming stars, the NAB AFL Women’s Under 18’s Championship will smash into Blacktown International Sportspark Sydney from Friday 19 to Sunday 21 May 2017.

Australia’s best junior female footballers will be aiming to impress coaches and recruiters for a chance to play in the AFL Women’s competition that is set to expand to 8 teams in 2018.

The Championship begins on Friday 19 May at 6pm with NSW/ACT taking on Queensland. NSW/ACT backs up the next day at 2.30pm against Western Australia. Sunday 21 May will see Queensland and Western Australia go head to head at 2.30pm.

Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Stephen Bali is thrilled with the high calibre of women’s events held at the Sportspark this year.

"It was fantastic to have the AFL Women’s GWS Giants play all of their NSW games in Blacktown, and I cannot wait to cheer on the next level of upcoming talent over the weekend as part of the Under 18 competition.

"The 2017 NAB Women’s AFL competition marks a new and exciting era in Aussie Rules Football," he said.

"We are so proud that we can host such great events right here in Blacktown. I encourage everyone to head to the games and show their support."

Many of the players involved in this year’s championships will be eligible to be drafted by AFL Women’s clubs in October. Players to watch include:

  • Alyce Parker, Haneen Zreika and Jordan Jolliffe (NSW/ACT)
  • Ruby Blair, Arianna Clarke and Gabby Collingwood (QLD)
  • Sonia Dorizzi, Courtney Hodder and Tayla McAuliffe (WA)

Entry to the game is free.
